Birth of a Ying-Lung

When a Kioh-lung ages to one thousand years old, it transforms into a ying-lung dragon. [1] Other sources claim that a quadruped called mao-tuh (meaning 'hairy calf') produces ying-lung. [1]

Physical Description

Ying-lung are dragons with wings, [2] and the only known Chinese dragons to be depicted with wings. [3] They have no visible scales, and in the order of dragons, the ying-lung are the oldest, earning the name Proper Conduct Dragon. [3] For a dragon to become Ying-Lung, they must reach the age of two thousand years old. [4]

Ying-Lung are guardians of the waters of the earth and linked to the clouds of heaven. [3]
