Soul Burn

Soul Burn © K. 'drago' McCormick

Date Completed: 26 September 2009 in Fairbanks, AK, USA
Medium/Paper: Pastel and Charcoals (Black, White, and Red) on 11x17 Charcoal Paper

About the Artwork:
Inspired partially by Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner." The story behind this piece is the tragedy of a shipwreck at the teeth of a sea serpent.

...and since these souls died aboard a ship that met its ends at the teeth of a sea serpent, so their memory is forever faded into the grimy, red-black deck that now lulls on the ocean floor. When people think of any sailor that died on this ship, they must also think of this moment.
