The Depth of Awakening

by drago

The ancient creature stirred. From above the surface, everyone could see the water ripple. Yet, fear did not grasp them. The creature stirred so often now that no one knew that the creature was the one moving the great oceans.

The new creatures, humans, called the moving waters "tide." They gave all credit to the New Moon, which was formed during the Second Awakening. But, all the sea creatures knew that when the acient leviathan stirred, trouble plagued its mind. And, when the leviathan was troubled, it wakes.

Upon the day of the Third Awakening, the humans threw poison into the seas. The containmination sent even the grandest of serpents to the Floor seeking shelter, seeking aid. The great leviathan was finally fully awakened, and not happy at all.

The first eye opened with pain; much had collected on it while the leviathan slept. The second eye pulled out of the mucky floor, followed by its gigantic teeth that tore their way out of the confine of the Floor. As the creature moved, the Floor changed, the ocean deepened, and the creatures of the sea cried out "No hiding place!"

When the Floor shifted, so did the land. The seventh continent fell to the sea, and the sea danced in celebration. The fitful humans fought it, but all the lands became desolate, froze over, and then melted again. The land was once again free of all life, fertile, and clean.

The acient leviathan then looked for her most faithful servents. Among them were the Sea Serpents, and she called each of them by their names. As they came to her, she gave each color their own land, and so the Sea Serpents were the next creatures of the sea to evolve to the land.

A new name was given to the Serpents. They picked it so that they would never have to worry about a fourth awakening. They called themselves the dragons, after the first rulers of the Earth.
