Draconic Storybook

Dragon Submissions

Separator

Originally, this had been set up as a contest-style writing competition; however, the particulars of a contest don't really suit the Draconic Storybook's needs. If you are a writer who wishes to share your story on this site, please consider submitting your story.

Guidelines

The Draconic Storybook is seeking new works from artists across the world. I am specifically interested in shorter works, but longer works that have been separated into sections will also be considered.

Guidelines

  • Any submissions to the Circle of the Dragon's Draconic Storybook should be focused on dragons or serpents. A story in which a dragon or serpent plays a minor role will not be accepted.
  • The submission should be entirely your own work. There are some special exceptions to this guideline listed below:
    • If the submission is co-written, you must have the co-author also write to me to confirm the submission.
    • If your work is based off of a legend, folk lore story, bed time story, myth, or other work of tradition, you must include that information in a preface before the story. You need to also provide as much information about the story that you can remember; for example, if it is a traditional story your parents passed down to you, please include the background associated with the story.
    • If your work is a translation (into English) of a story, you must have received permission from the copyright holder of the story in the other language. If there is no copyright holder (for example, it was a story known as Public Domain), you must provide a preface that explains the source of the text from which you translated the story.
  • If you have published this submission elsewhere, you must provide a letter or e-mail showing that the rights to publish this story again have been reverted to you. I will be more than happy to post your previously published work with information on its first publication.

It is very important for you to keep in mind that many print publications consider internet or online articles or stories as published entities. If you are a writer seeking to publish your work in print publications that do not accepted previously published submissions, do not submit your work here.

Submission Style

If your submission meets the above criteria, then please consider submitting it to be placed online in the Draconic Storybook. Please keep in mind that this site is not for profit, and I lose money on it each year in upkeep. In short, I cannot afford to pay anyone for their submissions.

To submit, please E-mail Kylie 'drago' McCormick with the following information:

  • Use the subject line "Draconic Storybook Submission."
  • A short introduction of yourself, your background/education, your previous work, etc. Please include a URL if you have a website for your writing, and a short biography to be included should your submission be chosen for publication.
  • Provide a quick summary (approximately 2-3 sentences) of the submission.
  • If the work has been previously published, please let me know where, when, and at what time the rights for publication reverted back to you.
  • Please only send me 1-2 pages of text. An excerpt of your story, long poem, or translation will be accepted if your submission is longer than that.
  • Do not send me e-mail attachments. I will only accept e-mail submissions and the text must be copied and pasted into the body of the e-mail.
  • Should you have a desired time limit to the posting of your work in the Draconic Storybook, please let me know the date(s) in which it can remain on the site.

If you submit anything to me without notice of co-authorship, translation, or based-on-another-story status, you are claiming the work to be entirely yours. I will run basic checks to make sure copyright infringement is not happening, but should your work turn out to be plagiarism of any variety, you are entirely responsible for having submitted the work to me without reading the guidelines explicitly stated above.

Please remember that I cannot accept every submission, or that I may delay posting your submission for various reasons not related to the quality of your work. I am not an editor, so please make sure that your work is ready for public view before you submit; I cannot edit your typos, spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, etc. and they will likely keep your submission from being published.

Response Time

I will do my best to respond to each submission as quickly as possible, at least for a simple confirmation of receipt. It make take me a month or two to read the excerpt of your submission.

After I have read the excerpt, I will request the longer version of the submission (should it exist). When I have finished reading this, I will let you know whether or not I can post it in the Draconic Storybook and confirm with you that it is ready to be posted.

Removal of Submissions or Limited Date Submissions

Some submissions might be posted for only a limited time, per request of the author or for other reasons. Should your submission, at any time, need to be removed or limited from this site, please contact me immediately so that I can set time aside to remove or to limit the submission. An example of this is a publication's acceptance of the same submission requires the submission to be taken down either permanently or for a period of time.

Should there be an issue of copyright infringement not found during the initial submission process, I will remove the submission immediately, without notice or warning to the person who submitted the piece. I will contact the person who submitted the piece to inform them of the claim, and further investigation of copyright infringement will proceed on a case by case basis.

In the case of a bad report, meaning no copyright infringement has occurred, I will restore the submission to the Draconic Storybook, so long as the original person who submitted the work agrees.
