Various evidence that I come accross seem to indicate that Taniwha (New Zealand dragon), similarly to Chinese dragon, actually is just an ancient description of UFO vehicles and/or crew members of UFO vehicles. Only that folklore distorted the technical details in verbal descriptions.

Tena koe.My name is Johnny Paki and am wanting to give correction to one of your legends(Tutaeporoporo).I am a direct descendant of Aokehu,his great grandson actually.There were perhaps 3 changes needed to your story.1-Tutaeporoporo was from Rangitikei and was caught and befriended by Tuariki(a Chief from Rangitikei)on the Wellington coastline.2-The people of Whanganui killed Tuariki and ate him as was their custom and this is what angered Tutaeporoporo to revenge best friend Tuariki.3-Aokehu did not just appear, but the people of Whanganui beseeched Aokehu to rid them of what they saw as a menace.Aokehu was a very well known Taniwha slayer and Tohunga Maatauranga(Supreme sorcerer).Aokehu had a fullface moko that made people fear and respect him as his lifestyle and achievements showed in the etchings of his moko.Aokehu has been carved on the main pole in front of the Putiki marae,Wanganui, as the taniwha died next to the marae.Aokehu killed Tutaeporoporo with 2 mystical weapons and chants that were only known to Aokehu.He was sent floating past the liar of the taniwha in a hollowed out tree trunk that was made to float.Tutaeporoporo swallowed the trunk and from the inside,Aokehu slayed the taniwha.
One of his sons(my grandfather)was exactly like him and held the same name too and was given the same respect as was given to his father.My grandfather was an Officer in the Hokowhitu battalion at the age of 14 in WW1 and WW2 reached a higher rank.In those days the only way to become an officer in the army was to hold a prestigious position within your Iwi or people.
I have much pride in my Great grandfathers and grandfathers exploits in the younger days of Aotearoa,so please amend the story of Tutaeporoporo.

Not to criticize your theories (I have enough of my own, and I think I deliberately make them bizarre)
but I think the question of western dragons being six-limbed creatures making them unlikely to exist is not a valid argument. Have you ever seen insects? Ants? Box-elder beetles? Ladybugs? They have six limbs. And look at the insects with wings, they have eight, ten, maybe even twelve limbs.
And as for the idea of comparing dragons to insects, well, have you ever played Legend of Dragoon? Look at the dragon right at the beginning of the game. That looked an awful lot like an insect to me!
