Modern Dragons

Dragon Bar

Many have asked me, "What are anthromorphic dragons?" and the like. They also ask my why this "dragon type" is not in the dragon types section. While I admit, it could be, I do not feel they fit well in here. This page will be completely dedicated to the modernization of dragons, and how they have changed.

New Dragon Types - Introduction
Due to dragon popularity - in RPG, stories, poems, and so on - they have evolved passed the known "historical" or even "neo-dragon" types of the past. MANY times, people will call something a drake, when it is, in fact, a wyvern. Why is this? Simple: some people are ignorant to the differences between Wyverns and Drakes. Some think that 'wyvern' and 'drake' are just other words for 'dragon'.

Today, you can hear of millions upon millions of fantasy creatures which have only recently become known. This is due to the expansion of the fantasy genre in general, and perhaps the expansion of the desire for it.

In addition to these "new" fantasy creatures, new "meldings" of creatures have appeared. For instance, you may see a dragon that fits none of the types posted it here. (Let's say a huge dragon that stands on four legs, and has the upper body of a human - much like a centaur.) These are currently unclassified.

Anthromorphic Dragon (Anthro)
An anthro is usually a mix between a human and a creature. In this instance, a dragon. The creatures most often stand on two legs (they are bipedal) and have arms like humans. They have wings, a tail, scales, a "dragon head", and all the external appearances of a Western Dragons. Except, of course, the fact that they are usually human in size, height, weight, and so on. Like I said before, they stand on two legs, meaning they walk and can work like humans.

Most of the time, they are drawn with "talons" instead of fingers. This is done more often to give them an eerie appearance than for any other reason. Other additions could be things like additional arms, tails, heads, horns, ect. They might even have a cyborg part to them.

Other things to note about them is that they are supernatural. While they may have the height of six foot six, they are still as strong and as powerful as any other dragon. They also exhibit magical powers, super strength, the ability to fly or glide, the ability to think, and often have more "humanish" emotions than Western Dragons.
